The Latest News And Reports From Scottish Boxing

Friday the 13th is crunch night for title challenger Barry Morrison

MOTHERWELL'S BARRY MORRISON will challenge for the British Light Welterweight title at the Kingsway Leisure Centre in Widnes on Friday the 13th of March knowing that a win will catapult him back into the big time.

The 28 year old is up against unbeaten Northern Irish southpaw, Paul McCloskey, who is being lined up for a European title shot later this year and this voluntary defence of his British title against Morrison is meant as a stepping stone to that bigger stage. But Morrison has upset the applecart before, most memorably when he went to London to beat Lenny Dawes to win the Light Welterweight title himself in January 2007.

Barry subsequently lost the title to Colin Lynes later that year and also lost to David Barnes last Summer when he attempted to win the British title back. This then is his third shot at the British Light Welterweight crown and will almost certainly be his last if he loses. If he wins though, the boxer they call The Bizness will be ell and truly back in the big time.

Morrison has already fought this year, beating Jason Nesbitt over six rounds at the St Andrew's Club annual Burns' Night show.
He floored Nesbitt in the first before winning on points and will be looking to bring that same firepower to the ring against McCloskey.

The fight will be shown live on Sky TV.
