Davy Savage of Argo ABC proved too slick and too clever for Madison’s Danny King at the Treetops Hotel in Aberdeen on Friday night, outscoring him at every quarter in the Scottish Senior Semis. He ran out a 25-2 winner and was awarded the boxer of the night award.
He will face Mohamed Steto in the 54kg final at Ingliston on the 24th of March after the Kingdom boxer’s hooks to the top and bottom forced a second round stoppage win over Lochside’s Graeme Munro.
In the 60kg semi-finals, Forgewood’s Steven Sharoudi was coasting in this smashing contest, but ran out of steam in the last. His holding and barging earned himself a public warning and young Richard Barclay (Noble Art) finishing the stronger of the two, but with far too much to do it was Steven who went home a 23-12 winner.
In the other 60kg semi, another Noble Art boxer, Liam Phillips, looked very sharp in disposing of Granite City’s Sammy Carrol, picking him off with every counter and earning a comfortable 9-3 win. It’s gonna be a cracker between him and Sharoudi in the final.
Jonathon Lee of Madison had to dig deep in the last round against Gus Will of the host club, Kincorth, but it was oh so close. Going into the last round level pegging at 7-7, Jonathon found that extra gear to edge home with Gus Will tiring sloppily. 11-9 the score.
James Quigley of Port Glasgow won handsomely with the fine art of pugilism, picking brave and gallant Dougie Anderson of Denbeath off at will before outscoring him in the 3rd.
In the 91+kg, Stephen Topen of Lochee Boys won by a walkover due to Larkhall’s Jim Perry withdrawing and he goes forward to meet Sam Scott in the final. The Forgewood boxer started the stronger and was first to the punch in the first three rounds and was leading this contest 4-1 going into the last round. However as Scott tired, big Andy Young of Inverness came storming back only to lose by the single point, 5-4, in the end.
