Hamilton Light Middleweight Scott Dixon lost his scheduled eight round contest against big hitting Matt Macklin at the Rivermead Leisure Centre, Reading, on Saturday.
Manchester based Macklin, no stranger to Scotland himself from his time with Peter Harrison in Glasgow, got the decision on a technical knockout when Dixon was forced to retire at the end of round five with a suspected perforated eardrum.
It was always going to be an interesting contest, with the 21 year old Macklin being tipped for great things with just one defeat on his record against the experience of 27 year old Dixon. But it was the Birmingham fighter who took control early on and by the start of the fifth Macklin was ahead on points.
In the fifth, Dixon rallied and started taking the fight to Macklin, but at the end of the round the Scots corner retired their boxer rather than risk further damage to his left ear.
