Scott Harrison could face Marco Antonio Barrera as early as May according to his manager, Frank Maloney.
The Mexican is due to defend his WBC Super Featherweight title on the 7th of May in Las Vegas and according to Maloney, Scott is on the shortlist of possible opponents.
"I'm not saying that he will get it but I've spoken to the promoters and hopefully we can wear them down," said Maloney. "I'll be meeting Frank Warren and hopefully he might be able to put pressure on as well. Scott brings a lot to the table and I reckon there would five to six thousand fans make the trip there if he could get the fight. But Scott has got to be devastating against Polo, who is a very respected boxer in America."
Scott Harrison defends his WBO Featherweight title against Victor Polo at the Braehead Arena on the 28th of January and the champion is determined to end the fight early. "I need to fight well-known boxers and Polo is a very well known boxer in America. He's got to get knocked out. A win is a win but this time it's about how good you win."
Polo, the WBO's mandatory challenger, certainly brings a wealth of experience to the top table at the Braehead Arena, but barring a major upset you can't see anything but a Scott Harrison victory. At 34 years of age, Polo's best days are behind him and he hasn't fought at this level for three years now.
But he has been beaten just four times in a career that stretches back to 1990 and has only been stopped the once, very early on in his career. If Harrison can indeed stop Polo there's no doubting that it would once again underline his credentials for fighting the best in the world.
A fight against Marco Antonio Barrera would be a step up in weight and class for Scott Harrison, but if anyone has the determination and ability to do both it's the man from Cambuslang. And in an interview with Sky Sports, Barrera had nothing but praise for the Scot. "Scott Harrison is an excellent, strong, aggressive, attacking fighter. I was really interested by a lot of his fights, especially against Wayne McCullough and Manuel Medina, and I think we could maybe meet in the ring in 2005."
On the undercard, Steve Foster Jr was expected to defend his English Featherweight title ahead of his British title eliminator against Greenock's John Simpson, but will now face a yet to be named opponent for the vacant WBU Featherweight title.
Tickets to see Harrison v Polo are available from the Braehead Arena on 0870 444 6062.
