Alex Arthur's European Super Featherweight European title bout against Boris Sinitsin has been given the green light by the European Boxing Union with purse bids for the contest required by the 9th of February.
It's almost certain that Frank Warren's Sports Network will win the right to stage the fight which means European title boxing will be coming to Edinburgh in the not too distant future.
Before that though Arthur has the British and the Commonwealth Super Featherweight titles to contest against Craig Docherty at the Kelvin Hall on the 18th of March. Win or lose in Glasgow, his European title shot will still go ahead, but the Edinburgh boxer is confident of victory over his Glasgow rival.
"Nothing has changed, I'm still predicting I'll hit too hard and too often for Docherty and will stop or knock him out," Alex Arthur told The Scotsman. "But the main target remains Manchester’s Michael Gomez, the man who forced me into this fight with Docherty in the first place by originally taking my title."
Should Alex win both the British, Commonwealth and European titles this year however, the desire to avenge his solitary defeat at the hands of Gomez may well fall by the wayside. Instead he would be looking at a shot at a genuine world title, most likely the IBF version as he currently holds the IBF Intercontinental belt.
If all goes to plan for the 26 year old, 2005 could well be a truly amazing year.
