Barry Morrison Heads South For His First Fight Of 2005

Unbeaten Motherwell Welterweight Barry Morrison will cross the border in a fortnight's time to appear at the Brentwood Leisure Centre, Essex, on Sunday the 13th of February.

He will be fighting Sheffield's Roger Sampson over six rounds on the undercard of the IBO Light-Welterweight title fight between local boy Colin Lynes and American Juaqin Gallardo.

24 year old Morrison has won all nine of his pro fights to date, including a three round stoppage win against the sometimes useful Rumanian Cristian Hodorogea at the Brentwood Leisure Centre in the Summer of 2003 so he's no stranger to this part of the world.

Roger Sampson, who has nine wins from 12 fights, usually campaigns at Lightweight and this fight has been made at Light Welterweight. He only returned to the ring in 200 after a three year absence and did so in style with a points win over former British Lightweight champion, Wayne Rigby, but was beaten last time out by Stoke's Scott Lawton.

Sampson doesn't have the power to trouble Morrison, but his southpaw stance will add to the task at hand and he has never been stopped. Victory on the night will most definitely be a step closer to a British title shot for the Scotsman, but it'll be his toughest test to date.

Tickets to see Barry Morrison on the Lynes v Gallardo undercard are available at £25 and £40 from 01277 262616 (doors open 5:30pm, boxing commences 6:00pm)
