"I Will Smash Harrison To Bits" - Michael Gomez

One disappointing performance and everybody and his dog fancies his chances. Ain't that the truth.

Manchester's Michael Gomez is in action on the 11th of February when he defends his WBU belt against Javier Osvaldo Álvarez at the MEN Arena, but is now saying that he wants to fight Scott Harrison after Álvarez at Super Featherweight and in Glasgow.

"After watching his fight with Polo I know I will smash Harrison to bits," reckons Gomez. "I'm offering him the chance to step up to Super Featherweight and fight me and I'm more than happy to go to Scotland and knock him out in front of his fans.

"He was so lucky against Polo. How can he talk about fighting the big boys out there like Marco Antonio Barrera, Manny Pacquiao, Juan Manuel Marquez? They will slaughter him. If he wants to get battered by a fighter with a Mexican name he doesn't have to go to America - he can stay in Glasgow and fight me."

Gomez no doubt fancies his chances based on his previous victories over Kilmarnock's Ian McLeod, Craig Docherty and Alex Arthur, but he's unlikely to bring anything to the table that will interest the Harrison camp - least of all a WBU belt. Indeed, he may not even have that much longer as Álvarez is one of the best South Americans to come to the UK in a while.

As for the often talked about rematch with Alex Arthur, the war of words continues, but the fight seems no closer.

"Forget about me fighting Arthur again, he's shown me his true colours and its yellow. I offered him a rematch last year and even went ringside to one of his fights to challenge him man-to-man but he scampered off. I know that Arthur isn't man enough to face me but at least Harrison has got the chance to get some credit back and fight for Scottish boxing's honour by accepting my challenge."

And his thoughts on Scott Harrison?

"Harrison is big and strong and that's about it. What will he do when I trade punch-for-punch with him, move him around and then sparko him? I will fight him anywhere at anytime. I want to get the fight on as soon as possible. I can assure you that it will not go down to judges or scorecards because I will knockout Harrison clean out and flat out.

"It's a fight that the public wants to see and I'm happy for it to be in Scotland right in his own backyard. I would love it there because the atmosphere would be electric and will really get me going. I will do to him what I did to Arthur."

He's right about one thing anyway. It's a fight that the public would want to see.
