Tommy Cannon Heads South To Face Cello Renda

Tommy Cannon is heading over the border to top the bill at a boxing dinner show at the Peterborough Moat House Hotel on Monday the 21st of February.

Last time out, Tommy beat Peterborough's Karl Wheeler over six rounds at the Glasgow Marriott and has only lost one in his last nine. This time he's up against another Posh boxer, Cello Renda, the American who stopped Scott Forsyth in the first round on the same Marriott bill in December.

Renda is just 19, has only fought three times and was stopped in one of those. Facing Cannon at this stage in his career shows how quickly the Ian Pauly team want to move him on. Defeat against the more experienced Coatbridge man would be a setback, but not the end of the world - particularly given the fact that the Scotsman isn't known as a banger and a points defeat would provide valuable learning experience for the youngster.

For Tommy it might be considered a more risky fight to take, although if it was anywhere other than Renda's adopted home town you would fancy him to win. And on paper Cannon should win comfortably, as long as he avoids Renda's punching power. Because of that he also has the most to lose if things don't go to plan.

An interesting piece of matchmaking and if you're down that way it should be a bout well worth catching.

Tickets are available on 01733 311266 or 07850 253846.
