Eastern District Beat English Midlands 7-2 At Solihull

An Eastern District Select team of boxers travelled down to Solihull Motorcycle Museum last Friday where they defeated an English Midlands Counties Select 7-2.

In the Juniors (fought over three two minute rounds), Fraser Watson (Cardenden) stopped Grantham's Ben Croft in the second round and there were points wins for Kingdom's Sean Finnie over Ben Lee (Triumph) and Duncan Bruce (Gilmerton) over Gary Bradley (Birmingham City). Cardenden's Taylor Wright lost a close points decision to Willenhall's Ryan Heath and club mate Jack Gemmell suffered a similarly narrow defeat boxing against South Normanton's Danny Singleton.

In the Seniors (boxed over four three minute rounds), the Eastern District Select claimed four victories out of four, with a fifth bout unable to take place because the lad due to face Andy Kinnear of Bonnyrigg weighed in heavy.

Paul Deegan of Gilmerton beat Sean McKervie (Bulkington) on points and fellow Gilmerton boxer Gary McMillan won in similar fashion against Priory's Jamie Ball. Eddie Finnie of Kingdom then beat Lee Hawkins (Birmingham City) on points and Cardenden's Jonathan Lee rounded off a fantastic night for the Scottish Eastern District squad by beating Mark Evans of Chesterfield ABC.

Many thanks to Pete Munn of Cardenden ABC for the above report.
