Scotland's Scott Harrison is all set to defend his WBO World Featherweight title against Michael Brodie in Manchester in June.
Contracts have yet to be signed, but Brodie's manager Jack Trickett and Sports Network boss, Frank Warren, agreed terms for the fight to go ahead at the Manchester Evening News Arena on the 3rd of June - the eve of the Hatton v Tszyu clash.
"World title fights on consecutive nights in the same city," Trickett told the Manchester Evening News. "I can't remember that ever happening anywhere, and Harrison will bring a right crowd down from Scotland."
There were rumours that the fight would be part of the Hatton v Tsyzu undercard, but that made little sense given that tickets sold out within hours of going on sale. It would have boosted any pay per view TV sales that's for sure, but would have left both Scott Harrison fans and Michael Brodie fans out in the cold as far as actually being there.
Scott Harrison versus Michael Brodie is likely to be the biggest domestic fight of the year, with both boxers firmly established on the world stage.
At 30, Brodie is still in his prime and has been beaten just twice in 38 fights. His two defeats came in previous world title challenges when he lost by a majority decision against Willie Jorrin for the WBC Super Bantamweight crown in 2000 and when he was stopped by In-jin Chi last April when challenging for the WBC Featherweight title.
Brodie hasn't fought since his defeat at the hands of Chi almost a year ago so will surely be looking to get some rounds under his belt before facing Scott Harrison in June.
